Nicole Ari Parker, an American actor, who has appeared on film and television in addition to on stage is best known for portraying Teri Joseph, a flamboyant attorney in the show on Showtime called Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe became her stage name following her marriage. The talent she displayed in her acting was apparent in her early years. In a Maryland high school contest gave her with the award for best actress. In the years following her work in theater, and with 'The Washington Ballet Company' she graduated with a degree in acting from 'New York University. Born to Mumbai, India and raised in Nigeria until the age of seven, Contractor was well-informed about traveling around the globe and in a wide range of civilizations at an extremely young age. When she was seven through nine, she was a student at boarding schools in London. Her family then moved to Toronto where she lived through the majority of her childhood. Contractor trained and eventually became a dancer of classical style in Toronto. She attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts. It's a high school that teaches arts which allowed her to not just study theater but danced as well. Contractor She had been dancing for over 10 years by the time she was, decided she was ready to focus on acting. After she completed high school and was awarded an all-inclusive tuition grant to the University of Toronto where she studied theatre with a double degrees in Sociology and Psychology. Contractor auditioned at the prestigious Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario, Canada, for Pericles. After one full year, she was awarded the lead part. The year 2002 was a great one for her. Canadian theater critics were awed by her performance in 92 performances of Pericles. Contractor was offered the opportunity to take part in the conservatory course, in which a select eight men as well as four women can be accepted for a course lasting 20 weeks on the classical stage that she eagerly took. Contractor was guaranteed a spot for the upcoming season of plays and landed the role of Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
